Thermographic Studies

In the context of services offered thermographic studies can make a very useful contribution to building diagnostics both during the build phase and also post occupancy.  Infra red thermography allows a non destructive test environment to be created to allow assessment of energy patterns and convert this to a helpful image.

Post occupancy appraisal of a dwelling where air leakage is evident around a patio door.   This is a typical example of how thermography is used to identify areas of leakage and give clear visuals on areas where remedial work may be required.

Thermographic studies tend to be post occupancy where measured performance has fallen short of design levels or where levels of discomfort are being experienced due to excessive air movement.  The methodology combines air testing / building depressurisation and conducting the thermographic study at the same time.  High levels of air infiltrating the depressurised building can easily be picked up by the camera thus leading to the identification of areas of leakage.  Appropriate remedial measures can then be agreed and hopefully a solution which will bring performance closer to a desirable level.
